The Art Academy Offers New Course to Improve Painting Skills
The Art League’s Art Academy has developed a new course for beginning and intermediary level artists to systematically improve their skills.
Brick by Brickwill build a new foundation for your art—no matter what your skill level with the Academy's newest program, Brick by Brick. For aspiring artists, Brick by Brick starts you off with the basics, learning to see and learning to draw what you see. For more advanced painters, the classes offer the opportunity to reevaluate and take inventory of your approaches toward achieving what you visualize.
Joyce and Don Nagel explain, “Beginners should use this program to build a good foundation of understanding the elements of a successful painting by hands-on practice. Struggling painters who never took time to build knowledge of the time-honored skills will benefit from a step-by-step review to having quicker success in their painting. Our team of instructors truly believes thatthis time-out to work on and strengthen basic concepts will improve every painter’s output.”

Developed and taught by the Academy instructor team of Joanna Chalson, Ted Jordan, Don and Joyce Nagel, Mary Kelly, and Alex Sharma, the class is offered in two sessions this semester. Level One starting this Friday, Sept. 18, will focus on stretching your imagination and freeing your hand with quick sketches and techniques. Level Two beginning Oct. 23 is about "raising the bar," building and enhancing your drawing skills which, in turn, will lead to stronger paintings.
Another new course this semester, So You Want to Be a Painter, will be your chance to experiment with different media--oils, acrylics, watercolor, and pastels.
“Many aspiring artists, as well as more advanced ones, walk around with their eyes wide shut," says instructor Ted Jordan. ”Brick by Brick” teaches the artist to open his or her eyes, to see, examine, and study why something looks the way it looks. The result? More confidence and facility in the handling of drawing media and creating compositions. It all gets down to making marks on paper that reveal something aesthetically and ultimately holding a paintbrush, making marks on a canvas that reveal something with a strong composition."
There are still some spaces left. For more information or enrollment contact the Art Academy’s administrator at 843-842-5738 or by email academy@artleaguehhi.org
