Art League of Hilton Head Announces New Executive Director
The Art League of Hilton Head announces its new Executive Director. Linda Powers was selected by the Board of Directors after an extensive search as the organization’s new Executive Director.
Linda Powers brings over 25 years of experience in leadership, fundraising, management, membership organization and program development. Her most recent position was with the American Cancer Society in Michigan as a Distinguished Events Specialist managing medium to large community-based fundraising initiatives. Linda proved herself to be an extremely talented distinguished events manager who relates beautifully with volunteers, major donors and top-level executives. During her tenure, Linda continually grew her events in spite of very challenging economic times in the state of Michigan, and she became a most sought-after advisor for other distinguished events throughout the organization.
Linda’s employment history includes President and Executive Director of the Arts and Crafts Association of America (ACAA) from 1996 to 2004, providing the national registration of independent artists in the United States, lobbying on the behalf of artists, participating in international tradeshows, and developing national art shows.
Linda grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Davenport University majoring in Marketing and Sales. Linda and her husband Steve vacationed on Hilton Head Island for over 15 years, and recently relocated and reside in Port Royal Plantation. Linda enjoys the arts, running, biking, golfing, kayaking, fishing, the beach, reading and singing.
“I am eager to begin and bring the Art League of Hilton Head to the next level,” Powers states. “I look forward to personally connecting with the citizens of Hilton Head Island and those within our surrounding communities. I am especially excited to develop programs and events that will raise the level of art awareness, and be attractive to the current membership, the community and the tourists.”
Linda continues by saying, “Art is part of our everyday living and it is important to realize how art impacts and influences all of us and all industries. There are several compelling reasons to support the arts and get involved. Art brings communities together and it helps celebrate our cultures. The arts spur local economies by attracting tourists. “
Linda concludes with: “You can look forward to new and exciting events that offer residents and visitors opportunities to increase their understanding and appreciation of art. I will be partnering with our surrounding educational institutions and with national art organizations. I will help develop internships to support those entering a career in art. There is a lot of work to be done and I will be actively recruiting volunteers to help me. I couldn’t be more pleased to have been chosen to do this important work. “
In their search for the new Executive Director, the Board of Directors focused on finding a candidate who possessed strong organizational development background coupled with business experience and proven fundraising strategies. The Board strongly feels they found just the right combinations in Powers and her selection supports the critical skills and talents needed to execute the Art League’s strategic plan for future growth and outreach.
“Linda Powers embraces and embodies the leadership qualities and future vision the Art League is looking to develop for Hilton Head Island. She brings a fresh, business-oriented perspective and a professionalism that will undoubtedly bring the Art League to the next level and begin the process of making Hilton Head Island an art destination,” said Cindy Chiappetta, Board President. “It is with great pride that the Board of Directors welcomes Linda Powers as its new Executive Director.”
